Black Women. You Already Know!

Please know and understand that being apart of my community includes plenty of inspiration & encouragement. Being a back woman, you don't have to prove yourself to anyone. Your proof is in your existence. Continue to wear your crown, drink your water, & mind your business. You are and will always be loved.

I, also, would like to talk to anyone who is an artist or creative within their own spaces. I saw a fellow artist share a DM that they received this week. It stated “I follow you for your art, not for your politics.”  On a daily basis, I think social media continues to try to dictate how artist should show up. It can force you to fall into this cutesy bubble; to always try to create what's trending. But, hey, guess what? ART IS POLITICAL

Nina Simone said it best, “An artist' duty, as far as I am concerned, is to reflect the times. Artists, have a responsibility to be involved in the times they live in, especially when everything is desperate and survival is a daily matter."

If there is art in the work you do, please don't feel the need to conform to what's trending. If you find yourself creating the same thing over and over again, it's okay to shift and try something else. If you lose followers, who cares. They were never for you. If you like it, I love it! Create what you want to create, most importantly, in the way you want to create. Please, please, please, preserve who you are and keep going.

Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk. :)
